At Do Good On Purpose, we believe in creating sustainable, supportive pathways to homeownership for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Our unique two-stage program is designed to provide immediate shelter, continuous support, and a clear path to owning a home.

Here’s how it works:

Stage 1: The From Here Onward Homeless Shelter

A First Step Toward Stability:


The From Here Onward Homeless Shelter provides immediate, safe, and supportive housing for homeless adults beginning their journey toward recovery and self-sufficiency. This stage is focused on stabilization, documentation, and preparation for long-term housing opportunities.

Requirements for Admittance:

  • Entry Point: Applicants must apply directly through the From Here Onward Homeless Shelter or through FreshStart Street Outreach. Partner and self-referrals are directed here for intake.

  • Documentation: Proper identification and birth certificate are required. If missing, our staff will assist in obtaining them; however, the application is paused until documents are secured.

  • Commitment to Rules: All participants must agree to follow shelter guidelines, including respectful conduct and a drug- and alcohol-free environment.

Living in the From Here Onward Homeless Shelter:

  • Accommodation: Dormitory-style, supervised housing providing a safe and stable environment.

  • Basic Needs: Access to meals, hygiene facilities, and personal storage.

  • Orientation & Onboarding: All residents attend preparation classes covering program opportunities, expectations, and requirements. Enrollment is finalized with a signed contract.

Support and Preparation:

  • Medical & Mental Health Screening: Screenings help identify needs and determine program suitability, with referrals provided when necessary.

  • Case Management: Residents are assigned a case manager to guide their personal pathway toward stability and housing.

  • Educational Workshops: Focused sessions introduce life skills, goal setting, and community responsibilities.

  • Peer Support: Residents are encouraged to build supportive relationships within the shelter community.

Duration:

  • The From Here Onward Shelter serves as a short-term stabilization point. Length of stay varies by individual progress and readiness to transition into the Starter Village.

Stage 2: The Starter Village

A Safe Place to Begin:

Our Starter Village offers a secure and supportive environment for individuals who have recently completed rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse.

This stage is crucial for stabilizing and preparing participants for the next step toward homeownership.

Requirements for Admittance:

  • Drug-Free and Alcohol-Free: Applicants must be drug-free and not engaged in alcohol abuse. Proof of completion from a certified rehabilitation program is required. Random Drug and Alcohol tests are standards to the success of our community.

  • Commitment to Recovery: Participants must maintain a commitment to staying sober and adhering to the program guidelines.

Living in the Starter Village:

  • Accommodation: Participants live in free-standing, 8' x 10' one-room units with keyed entrance doors called, the "TDY Pod".

  • Facilities: Portable, private restroom with shower stalls are conveniently accessible.

  • Community Center: The village includes a community center with a kitchen, dining room, and meeting rooms for communal activities and support services.

Support and Preparation:

  • Life Skills Workshop: Participants engage in workshops focusing on essential life skills, such as budgeting, job readiness, and conflict resolution.

  • Mental Health Support: Access to counseling and mental health services to support overall well-being.

  • Peer Support: Building positive relationships with peers and staff, fostering a sense of community and mutual support.

  • Volunteerism: All residents participate in volunteering 10-15 hours per week with locally approved charity organizations.

Duration:

  • Participants typically stay in the Starter Village up to 6 months, depending on their progress and readiness for the next stage.

Stage 3: Good Samaritan Villages

A Path to Permanent Housing:

After successfully completing the Starter Village stage, participants move on to our Good Samaritan Villages Tiny Homes Homeownership Program.

This stage focuses on providing the tools, support, and opportunities necessary to achieve and maintain homeownership.

Qualifications for Transition:

  • Continuous Sobriety: Maintenance of sobriety for at least 6 months.

  • Stable Participation: Consistent and active involvement in village activities and adherence to guidelines.

  • Completion of Workshops: Successful completion of all required life skills and financial literacy workshops.

Obtaining Your Home:

  • Volunteer Commitment: Participants volunteer at least 10-18 hours per week with locally approved charity organizations.

  • Mortgage Credits: Volunteer hours are converted into "mortgage credits," with a total of 2100 hours required to obtain ownership of their own tiny home.

Support and Accountability:

  • Project Managers: Each participant is assigned a project manager to ensure they meet program requirements and receive guidance.

  • Mentorship: Access to mentors who have successfully transitioned through the program to provide support and advice.

  • Ongoing Services: Continued access to mental health support, job training, and community integration activities.

  • Harvest Business Academy: Opportunities to enroll in courses and training programs that empower participants to become self-supporting entrepreneurial business owners through education and skill development in business principles, purpose, and prosperity.

Living in the Tiny Home Village:

  • Tiny Homes: Participants receive a tiny home manufactured by Permanent Party Homes, located in urban areas to ensure access to essential services.

  • Village Life: The tiny home village fosters a supportive community with communal gardens, a community center, and various communal activities.

Consequences for Non-Compliance

We have a zero-tolerance policy for drug use and alcohol abuse.

Participants who violate these guidelines are immediately disqualified from the program to maintain a safe and supportive environment for all residents.
